How to fix pendant lights and chandeliers of 5–10 kg to an Artex-coated ceiling
On an Artex-coated ceiling, fix pendant lights and chandeliers of 5–10 kg with screws into a joist or a timber noggin, rated for at least 20 kg in a ceiling — twice the weight. A plasterboard screw on its own has no ceiling rating. Have an electrician or fitter fix it. If the coating went on before 2000 it can contain asbestos: have it tested before drilling (HSE). 353 models state a weight in this range.
